About Me

My photo
As I have more photos of food than I care to count, I thought why not I share my humble findings with anyone who stumbles upon this blog. Nothing fancy.....cannot afford it lah.....not with my kind of salary....sigh (hinting to my boss). Sorry about the not so professional looking photos. Cannot afford to get a better camera yet (another hint). I also like to browse online shopping sites for the fun of it. Quite interesting, you know. But.......real shopping (you know... drive to a shopping complex, fight for a parking space and jostle with the other shoppers inside the complex) is not my cup of tea, heh, heh. So....I just might add some more online shopping site links here (those that I think are interesting lah....you know..not those common ones). So, if you are like me, do keep an eye on the shopping column on your right, eh? I also like to think about and dissect quotes of famous and ordinary people. Aaand....I also like to ramble about things and people I observed everyday. By the way, anyone of you want a pet? Have a look at the sidebar (Please Help Them). These adorable animals are waiting for a loving person to adopt them. Buuut....remember, a pet is forever. No abuse.

Bukit Merah Curry House, Ipoh

As I practically passed by this shop every day, I suggested breakfast there one weekend. We ordered roti canai kosong and roti sardine. The roti canai kosong was a little bit on the hard side but has a sweetish taste. Can be eaten on its own.The roti sardine, on the other hand, was soft and fluffy. Both came with dhal curry and fish curry. The dhal curry was good.........thick and slightly spicy. But the fish curry, while tasty, was on the watery side.
Bukit Merah Curry House is located along Jalan Lau Pak Khuan same row as AmBank near Fatimah Hospital.

Boston, Ipoh

Went to Boston for dinner one weekend. Err......not many customers around. Dad's yong chow fried rice is, according to him, not as good as before. The fish ball curry noodles is not too bad. Could be spicier, though. The stir fried flat noodles or wat tan hor is only just so, so. Something lacking here. Don't know what. The Szechuan fried rice, even though it is supposed to be spicy, is not spicy at all. A big disappointment for the person who ordered it. The standard of food here seems to be going down. Wonder why?
Anyway, Boston is located at De Garden in Medan Ipoh.

Dim Sum at O Place, Ipoh

Went for a late breakfast of dim sum at O Place yesterday. It was already past 9.00 am when we walked in and yet we still had to wait more than 30 minutes for our dim sum to arrive. Apparently the chef was late or something. On top of that the waiters seem to have only just woken up from their sleep. They got our orders wrong twice even though everything was very clearly marked on our piece of order chit. Perhaps they don't know how to read in English??????? They are foreign workers after all....... Anyway, those peeves aside, the food tasted quite good.......or was it because we were famished........so, you will have to try it out for yourselves. The carrot cake was good although all the pieces were stuck together. The steamed spare ribs was not too bad even though there were more bones than meat in the serving. The star of the whole lot has got to be the tau foo fah. Very smooth........so smooth until it just slid down our throats the moment it entered our mouths.
O Place is located at Jalan Sultan Abdul Jalil in Greentown, Ipoh.

Restoran Oz, Ipoh

After coming back from a day trip to Kuala Kangsar, we decided to go out for dinner and ended up at Restoran Oz in Medan Ipoh Bestari. Not many customers around.......still early, I guess. Not even 7.00 pm but then we are hungry, mah which was a good thing because the portions are big, so, good news for those big eaters out there. Small eaters can share lor. The braised lamb is yum, yum. The meat is tender, so can save on the jaw exercise. Lots of side dishes. The Gold Coast Pork Schnitzel is good too. Comes with tomato rice. Erm, as for the Freemantle Fish & Chips, the fish is a bit tasteless even after squeezing some lemon juice and dipping it into the sour cream. But.........don't let this deter you from checking out this place. Hmmm.....maybe we can try their Outback Roast Chicken next time. Looks good to me.
Restoran Oz is located at Jalan Medan Ipoh 1D, Medan Ipoh Bestari, Ipoh.

Saigon Hibachi, Ipoh

As the aunt is here for a visit, we decided to go out for dinner. Ended up at Saigon Hibachi in Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh and were given a private room. We had the Soft Shell Crab Set which was given the thumbs up from everyone in the group. The set comprised of soft shell crab salad, soft shell crab handroll, spider maki, soft shell crab itself and miso soup. The best thing about eating soft shell crab is you don't have to fight your way through the crab shell to get to the flesh beneath....you just pop the whole thing into your mouth and chew. Here at Saigon Hibachi, the soft shell crab is fresh and good to the last bite. The portions are quite big too.
Saigon Hibachi is located at Jalan Medan Ipoh 4, Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh.

Superstar Libra

One of  the best things about going on a cruise is the food. Very yum, yum and ho chiak. Lots of choices too. So many choices and so yum, yum that we cannot quite decide where to eat whenever makan time comes. Kudos to the kitchen staff for producing so much delicious food for the guests each day. These are a teeny weeny part of what we ate while cruising on Star Cruise's Superstar Libra. Too busy stuffing my face lah.
Also, a big thank you to the cruise staff for making us feel right at home.

Homemade Spring Roll

Hah, this is one spring roll that you cannot buy from anywhere because it is homemade and not for sale. Just want to share with you guys. Also, one of my childhood fave food, it is made by one of my aunts from Teluk Intan. Made from minced pork and prawns with cubes of carrots and water chestnuts rolled up with "chue mong yau" (sorry...don't know how to translate this) and deep fried, it is one of the must have food during Chinese New Year for us. Yum, yum. Ho chiak. Hou sik.

Food For Thought (41)

Is this why we are told to count to 10 before we open our mouth whenever someone makes us angry? So that we wouldn't say something we may regret?

Garden Restaurant, Ipoh

The day being grandma's birthday, the whole lot of us decided to celebrate at Garden Restaurant, Jalan Hussein, Ipoh. We settled for one of their set menus. The sour and spicy fish is.....erm.....let's just put it this way........the sauce is good but not the fish, which was tasteless. Can't even tell it's fish, if you get what I mean. The ginger fried chicken is good though. Tender on the inside and crispy on the outside. Marmite pork ribs is not bad. The meat is tender while the sauce is yum, yum. Fried prawns in soya sauce........again, the sauce, even though a bit on the oily side, is good but the prawns are not that fresh. Four combination vegetables (lady's fingers, petai, long beans and eggplant) is good. Very "belacany". The steamed egg with minced meat is smooth. Tasty. Vegetables in beancurd sauce is not that outstanding. Soup for the day is lotus root soup. Tasty and clear. Good till the last drop.

Food For Thought (40)

Jumping into the 13th General Election fever, there is one thing that puzzles me very much :

Why are there people attacking other people for supporting one party or the other? I thought we are all supposed to practise freedom of speech and democracy...........and respect for other people's rights????????

Wantan Noodles (T & V Restaurant, Ipoh)

After years of searching, we finally found another of our childhood favourites......wantan noodles from the uncle who came around our neighbourhood every morning making the familiar "tok tok" sound with his bamboo clappers. We are glad to say that even though his son has taken over the business and have moved into a coffee shop, the taste of the wantan noodles remains unchanged. The noodles are still springy and not gluey at all. The wantan are still as yummy and juicy. And the soup is still as sweet and clear as before.
This stall is located inside T & V Restaurant in Taman Desa Kencana, Bercham near Public Bank and opens only in the evening.
