About Me

My photo
As I have more photos of food than I care to count, I thought why not I share my humble findings with anyone who stumbles upon this blog. Nothing fancy.....cannot afford it lah.....not with my kind of salary....sigh (hinting to my boss). Sorry about the not so professional looking photos. Cannot afford to get a better camera yet (another hint). I also like to browse online shopping sites for the fun of it. Quite interesting, you know. But.......real shopping (you know... drive to a shopping complex, fight for a parking space and jostle with the other shoppers inside the complex) is not my cup of tea, heh, heh. So....I just might add some more online shopping site links here (those that I think are interesting lah....you know..not those common ones). So, if you are like me, do keep an eye on the shopping column on your right, eh? I also like to think about and dissect quotes of famous and ordinary people. Aaand....I also like to ramble about things and people I observed everyday. By the way, anyone of you want a pet? Have a look at the sidebar (Please Help Them). These adorable animals are waiting for a loving person to adopt them. Buuut....remember, a pet is forever. No abuse.

Chee Cheong Fun, Canning Garden

Since we are always passing by this van selling chee cheong fun parked under a tree along Jalan Canning Estate next to the petrol station, we decided to try it out one weekend. Not bad, you know. The sauce is thick and flavourful. Completely coats the chee cheong fun which is smooth and yummy. The portion is on the small side but good, nonetheless. Oh yes, the van can be found at this spot only on Saturdays and Sundays (and public holidays, I think), so, don't go looking for it on other days.

Turf Club Laksa, Ipoh

A last minute decision to have lunch at Pusat Makanan Ye Sing located at Jalan Dato Megat Khas, Taman Bandaraya, Ipoh saw us all opting for the stall selling laksa (Turf Club Laksa). The Assam Laksa is good. Not too sour and not too spicy. Just right. The soup is quite thick too. On the other hand, the Siam Laksa is not that good. Not 'lemak' enough. The portions are a bit on the small side, so big eaters might have to order 2 helpings.

Spices Of Penang, Ipoh

Seeing this outlet that opened not too long ago, we decided to check this place out. Service is messy. The items that we requested (additional sambal, the bill, etc) either took ages to arrive or never arrive at all or the wrong thing arrived. No experience, maybe?????? Anyway, sis' order of kampung fried rice is a disappointment. Not tasty at all and the anchovies.......how long have they been left outside their container, ah? Tough as leather. My order of Penang spicy fried noodles is not spicy at all. Should have left the word 'spicy' out of the name. Then, customers like me would not have felt cheated. The noodles are also a bit too sweet. The chef added sugar?????? A definite no, no in my books. The pineapple fried rice is good though. Dad gave it the thumbs up. Mum's char koay teow is also good but a bit on the oily side. The assam laksa is also good, according to sis who came with her friend on another visit..........not as good as the ones in Penang but better than those in Ipoh.

Food For Thought (37)

Yes, this is true. While I was going through a difficult period, this person noticed I am not myself and cared enough to find out what's troubling me. On the other hand.......there are also people who noticed and even though they did not say anything, they quietly showed their support for me without asking what's troubling me.

The Artiste Cuisine & Lounge, Ipoh

To satisfy sis' sudden craving for burgers, we decided to go a bit high class and went to The Artiste Cuisine & Lounge for a burger meal. We ordered the fish burger and the chicken burger. Both come with a helping of french fries and some greens. The fish burger comes with 2 pieces of fish fillet. Erm.....the fish fillet is a bit tasteless though and soft. The sauce that comes with the burger is on the bland side too. The chicken burger fares a little bit better here. At least the chicken fillet is not tasteless. Comes with a small plate of brown mushroom sauce.
The Artiste Cuisine & Lounge is located at L1-3, De Garden, Persiaran Medan Ipoh, Ipoh.

Sakai Cafe, Ipoh

On a whim, we decided to check out this cafe with a funny name in Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh.....Sakai Cafe. Erm....no customers when we walked in. Still too early for dinner, I suppose.......only 6 pm. The spaghetti in tomato sauce (chicken) is quite alright. The sauce is tasty and so are the chicken chunks. Same goes for the spaghetti in tomato sauce (seafood) although the seafood only consist of prawns and crabsticks. The spaghetti in cream sauce (seafood) is a bit too watery. Like eating spaghetti in soup. Flavour wise......not too bad. Meanwhile, the spaghetti in BBQ sauce (chicken) is good with the sauce carrying a hint of black pepper. Their mushroom soup is quite tasty too with pieces of mushroom floating around. The garlic bread.......yum, yum.......crispy and garlicky.
Sakai Cafe is an end lot located at Jalan Medan Ipoh 1, Bandar Baru Medan Ipoh opposite Festival Walk.

Puppy For Adoption (Free) - An Update

This is an update on my previous blog of the same title dated 22 October 2012. Hazel, the puppy, has found a new home. Yesterday evening, even though it was raining quite hard, a very nice young man came to take her home and now Hazel has a loving family and 2 big sister poodles to keep her company. Here, Hazel's foster family would like to express their utmost gratitude and say a very, very big thank you to him for giving Hazel a good home. May God bless him and his family.

To all the animal rescuers in this world :
You are great people. Angels. Keep up the good work.
To all the people who adopt their pets from animal shelters :
A very big thank you for giving these animals a good home.

May God bless all of you and your families.

To all those who did one or more of the following :
1) abuse defenceless animals
2) abandon your pet for silly reasons like the pet is old or sick or when you are tired of them.
3) kill defenceless animals just because you think they are a nuisance (What if your children are a nuisance?)
Remember : For every cause, there is an effect. When it is payback time (and don't think payback only comes after your lifetime), remember what you did because the beings up there are looking and recording everything. Think of your family and descendants too.

Observations Of a Food Blob (9)

AES.....hmmmm.......lots of questions being asked but.......no clear answers being given. Why so vague???? For example :
1) What will happen if I run a red light because I want to make way for the ambulance/fire engine/police with sirens blaring behind me? How do I prove my innocence in cases like this?
2) What will happen when the moment I cross the line, the light turns orange and there is no way I can get across in 2 seconds? 2 seconds is very short only, you know. 1 2  This is how long 2 seconds is lah.
3) What should I do when I am approaching a set of traffic lights and the light is green?   a) Do I slow down to a crawl even though the light is still green?   b) Do I step on the accelerator in the hope that I can make it before the lights change?   c) Do I go at the normal speed and hit the brakes the moment the light turns orange when I reach the line and risk getting hit by the vehicle behind me?
What's so difficult with installing a countdown timer at the traffic lights together with the AES, hah?  They don't have countdown timer with the AES in Europe, so we also follow woh. Well then, why don't we follow Europe and change our weather to four seasons too? Everything also want to follow. From what I've witnessed so far, now there are a lot more close shaves and actual rear ending when the driver of the car in front hit the brakes because the lights suddenly change. These are not considered as accidents, ............?????? Installing a countdown timer with the AES would reduce this kind of incidences, no.
Somebody, please answer me........pleeeease. I fully support the AES at traffic light junctions if it works together with the countdown timer because it would more effective in preventing the kind of close shaves and rear ending that is happening more frequently these days. And...........I fully support the AES along highways and trunk roads if they can prevent speed maniacs from treating the public roads as race tracks. Why can't somebody listen to what others have to say, hah? Orrr........hmmmmm.........

Lorong 100 Tahun Curry Mee, Penang

On one of our trips to Penang, we decided to try out the famous Lorong 100 Tahun Curry Mee. Erm.....how shall I put it???? Let's just say, the curry mee is just not to any member of our group's taste and put a full stop to it right here. Perhaps we are not used to this kind of curry mee??? Comes as a bit of disappointment to us as we were not expecting something like this. After all.....it is very famous woh. It seems tasteless to us even though we heaped a whole load of the chilli paste onto it buut....one man's meat is another man's poison lor.

Bricks & Barrels Gastrobar & Beer Garden, Ipoh

In conjunction with Father's Day (I know, I know, it's long gone), we headed to Bricks & Barrels Gastrobar & Beer Garden for their Sunday BBQ Buffet Dinner. They use this over sized beer barrel for a table and so I find this quite uncomfortable. Nowhere to tuck my legs lah. Anyway, what's on the BBQ buffet line? Well, there's lamb chop with various kinds of marinate, pork chop, pork satay, kebabs, beef tenderloin, salmon, saba fish, prawns, clams, baby octopus (again, I say, it's not right to eat babies) pormodori clam spaghetti, roast pork fried rice, fried chicken, salad, meatballs, soup, fruits, etc, etc. Have to order drinks separately. Erm.....most of the food in the buffet line got the thumbs down from us. Either they are too chewy, too tough or tasteless. Perhaps, they didn't know how to "process" the food????? Orrr.....perhaps we are being too picky???? Aaand..... the place is dimly lit........could hardly see what I am eating - something which I don't like.
Bricks & Barrels Gastrobar & Beer Garden is located at Jalan Lau Ek Ching, Ipoh.

Food For Thought (36)

Errrr......but not if you want to be a criminal. That is an absolute No, No. I don't think people want to see a criminal nor should anyone aspire to be a criminal.

Puppy For Adoption (Free)

Anyone in the Ipoh area wants to adopt a puppy? Meet Hazel. Someone abandoned her at a back lane and we rescued her. She is 4 to 5 weeks old and has gotten her first vaccination today from Dr Ranjit Kaur of JR Veterinary Centre in Ipoh Garden South, Ipoh. She is now being fostered by a family in Ipoh Garden. Those who are interested in adopting Hazel can contact this email address
       LoveAllAnimals68@gmail.com
It's free, by the way. She will be vaccinated and neutered before her foster family hands her over to her new owner. They would not be charging a single cent. All they want is a good home for Hazel.
Remember.......a pet is forever.

My name is Hazel

How can anyone dump this adorable little puppy, hah?

Restoran Old Generation, Ipoh

On a whim, we decided to drop by at Restoran Old Generation for a steamboat buffet dinner. Not many people around even though it was a Saturday night. Quite a large spread they have there. There's the usual steamboat ingredients plus a small selection of sushi, some fried yong liu, roast duck, roast pork, roast chicken, soup and lamb chop. Not forgetting the drinks, fruits, jellies and ice creams. Additionally, they also have a serving each per customer of sharks' fin (yup....I know, it not the done thing to eat sharks' fin) and suckling pig (it's not right to eat babies). Overall, the food wasn't too bad although the sharks' fin was tasteless and some of the fried yong liu tasted quite weird. Don't know why. 50% discount for senior citizens though.
Restoran Old Generation is a corner lot at Jalan Lapangan Siber 10, Bandar Cyber, Ipoh.

Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant, Ipoh

Feeling hungry after a morning of shopping, we went into Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant for lunch. Wow, full house but we were lucky to find an empty table. The ordering process is messy, lor. We were given a folder filled with all sorts of different note pads with the names of the food served printed on them. Why can't they just print everything in one note pad instead of a different note pad for different categories of food, hah? Sorting out whose order belongs to which note pad is so maddening especially when you are famished. Anyway, Dad's order of roasted honey spare ribs with chinese mushroom rice is dry as a bone and not tasty at all while Mum's order of the E-mix set meal is equally not good. Meanwhile, the order of baked chicken wings with cheese is given the thumbs up by sis while my order of cheese and bacon baked with potato was not bad either. Ermm.......don't think there's going to be a repeat visit from us, heh.
Hong Kong Kim Gary Restaurant is located inside AEON Ipoh Station 18.

Fish Head Noodles, Penang

On a visit to Penang, our driver took us to Wong Chau Jun Restaurant at Jalan Rangoon for a lunch of fish head noodles. Wah......one of the best fish head noodles I've ever tasted. I love it that it doesn't have a fishy smell and taste unlike some fish head noodles I've tried. The soup is full of flavour. A perfect blend of spicy and sour with a hint of lemongrass flavour. Yum, yum. The fish, too, is fresh and tasty. Just thinking about it makes my saliva flow.

Kedai Makan Choy Kee, Sungkai

On our way back from Kuala Lumpur one weekend, we detoured to Kedai Makan Sungkai to 'ta pau' (takeaway) their very popular braised pork knuckles. If you are not planning to eat it on the same day, better get  a frozen one. The meat is tender and full of flavour and it is not oily either. Perhaps the cooking method has removed most of the oil from the pork knuckle??? And.....the sauce......ooohh, I love the sauce, especially poured over my rice. Perfect blend of ingredients. Yum, yum.
Kedai Makan Choy Kee is located at Jalan Besar, Sungkai.

Mua Chee, Chinatown, Kuala Lumpur

Seeing a crowd at the mua chee stall while nosing around Petaling Street, Kuala Lumpur, we decided to join the crowd. After all, a crowd at a food stall usually means the food there is good, right? So, we bought a pack of mixed flavours mua chee to share. Even though it is supposed to be a mixture of six flavours, none of us could tell the difference between them. Something wrong with our taste buds????? Anyway, flavours aside, the texture of the mua chee is good. Slightly chewy and not too soft or too hard. Good.
